My big issue with President Shrub.

For a long time I have been struggling with why I dislike Shrub so much. For some reason I have decided to air my issues tonight.
1 Of course I dislike his politics and his underlings. But this is not my major beef with the President.
What I dislike about the President is personal but at the same time it speaks wonders about our country and its politics.
Here we have a President whose father was not only President and Vice President but ambassador to China and CIA director. In addition his grandfather Prescott Bush was a Senator. The Bush family also has money.
So here is my beef with the President.
George W. Bush did not leave North America until he was President. Let me say it again. George W. Bush did not leave North America until he was President. One more time for true clarity.
George W. Bush did not leave North America until he was President.
How many millions of Americans leave this country every year on vacation!!!! the vast majority of them with much less money than our president. The only explanation is that the President simply never had a desire to go to Europe or Asia or Africa. He had no desire to look upon the great works of the Italian Masters or visit the Great Wall of China. He had no desire to see the Great Pyramid of Giza and Sphinx. And guess what 60 million Americas have no problem with this either.
They have no problem that we have as our President a man who is not perhaps the idiot we all suspect he is, but he is most certainly an ignoramus. And Americans seem to like that. They like a man who seems to have no sense of culture. They like the fact that he thinks American culture is the only culture.
This is what makes me so mad. We have a culture who refuses to acknowledge the possibility that there are other positive cultures out there.

Great Bush Website.

This is a great website you have to check this out. I really like dressing Bush up as Red Neck with a beer can and then have him say he doesn't drink. Even better is the S&M getup. It even comes complete with the Red Ball in the mouth.

It is now Tuesday December 28th

You can not escape the images coming out of the India Ocean Basin this week. The death and destruction there is just too horrible to imagine. When one thinks about the Earthquakes that have hit the United States we have been very very lucky.
We are lucky we live in a Democratic society.
We are lucky we live in a society with a modern infrastructure.
We are lucky we live in a society with modern medicine available to the masses.
We are lucky we do not live in a region where Earthquakes are normal occurrence.
We are lucky that at least half our population did not vote for President Bush. On the other hand....

In happier notes.
I took the championship of my fantasy football league:-)
I am on vacation this week. I think I already noted that but I wanted to say it again. I am on vacation. Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!
There is something so nice about not having to wake up until you want to. Not having to worry about what your students are going to do wrong or for that matter right. It is just nice.
Ate supper with my parents tonight. My mother cooked this fantastic Mushroom Barley soup. With out a doubt one of her TOP TEN dishes. I had three portions.
So my father tells me there is this place down by Wall street that sells chocolate at $2 a piece. Rather expensive for chocolate but apparently for that special someone it is perfect. Now if only I had someone to give the chocolate to.

The Star Wars DVD and other weekend stuff

Well I am watching Return of the Jedi on DVD. I have to say I am still essentially at the begining of the movie. They have just escaped from Jabba the Hutt. Why didn't Lucas put the sandstorm scene in. I know apparently the quality sucks put I just think that the scene needs to be in the movie if not to just show the full scale MF.

On another note, this weekend went to a great restuarant in upstate New York called 40 West. If you are ever in Rhinebeck I highly suggest you go there. I had this King Salmon special. There was tartar, cured Salmon and a pepper crusted salmon all for the price of 22 dollars. All three preperations came with ample portions in a NYC the pepper crusted piece alone might have cost 22 dollars.

Well it is back to watching ROJ. Have a great night.

President Lincoln and New Research

So This morning over Breakfast I was reading a article in the New York Times Thursday Arts section regarding hte sexual prefrence of our 16th President. There still seems to be alot of debate bout this issue with both sides argueing over the same evidence. It certainly seems like he could have been gay. It seems remarkable that he we are 140 years after the death of Lincoln and we are still having a debate about this issue. Part of me would like to think that it should not be an issue. Lincoln never made homosexuality a part of his politics. On the other hand if George Bush later turned out to be gay that would be a very interesting historical debate.

Social Security

Bastard Bush he is destroying yet again another aspect of the GREAT NEW DEAL. Why does everyone want to kill FDR's programs..... Social Security needs to be fixed not privatized. I am not entirely sure if Bush really wants social security around in the long run. He is certianly not ready to pay for.
Also Why is he so opposed to tax raises. Until Shrub every war time President raised taxes and no one complained. This President is leading this country down a very bad path. We need to remember the New Deal ideals fondly not as something that needs to be killed

School today

Spent an enjoyable day in a 6th grade classroom. I was helping out with their writing. Man some of them can really write. It was also nice to see that so many of the students were writing essays in favor of such nice liberal/humanitarian causes. Today has been a good day.
Tonight it is off to watch ROTK extended edition.

The President's Multi Billion dollar gamble.

So apparently President Shrub's multi Billion dollar plan to protect our nation from Rogue nations launching ICBMs has once again failed. Didn't anyone see this coming. Besides no nation on earth would be dumb enough to actually launch a missle at us. They would prefer to ship it in a cargo hold. And since we don't check those it would be so much easier. ARGGGGH

Welcome

Random historical/political thought of the day.

Why did we fight to keep a state in the Union(Alabama) that just voted to keep segregationist language in its state Constitution?
